What is a Poem?

This one was written on March 21st, which is World Poetry Day. Apparently last Friday 21st was World Poet's Day, so here's my tribute to poetry.

What is a Poem?

What is a poem
but a reflection of a disquieted soul?

What is a poem
but fragments of what once was whole?

What is a poem
but scattered words of a restless heart
coming together on paper
to form a meaningful piece of art?

A poem is
a strange longing
what will never be
what the heart feels
but the eyes can't see.

A poem is
a secret desire
a hear consumed by fire
a sense of not belonging
eternal frame of longing.

A poet is
the most tormented soul.
A poet feels
deeper pain and deeper toll.
